The Word of God teaches that our children are given to us by God.
Psalm 127:3-5 Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with their enemies in the gate. (NKJV)
Psalm 127:3-5 Don’t you see that children are God’s best gift? The fruit of the womb his generous legacy? Like a warrior’s fistful of arrows are the children of a vigorous youth. Oh, how blessed are you parents, with your quivers full of children! Your enemies don’t stand a chance against you; you’ll sweep them right off your doorstep. (Message Bible)
On May 15, 2016, we stood in front of our church and dedicated Amaris Cristinita to the Lord, like Hannah in the Bible (see I Samuel 1). We knew that we were only stewards, not owners, of our daughter’s new life. She belonged to Jesus.
I Samuel 1:26-28 Hannah said to him, “Excuse me, sir. Do you remember me? I am the woman you saw standing here, praying to the Lord. I asked him for this child, and he gave me what I asked for. So I am dedicating him to the Lord. As long as he lives, he will belong to the Lord.” Then they worshiped the Lord there. (Good News Translation)
Every parent has a responsibility, not only to their children, but to God as well. That responsibility entails releasing what is really His back into His hands as He guides us to care for the gift He sent!
