A Mask of Angel Wings

There are all kinds of masks. Costume masks. Robber’s masks. Construction masks. Medical masks. The list goes on. In this season, we are especially aware of masks meant to keep out viruses. There’s been controversy about their effectiveness; but one mask is, without a doubt, impenetrable and always effective. What is that mask? Angels wings.

The mask of angel’s wings is by far the most important mask you will ever wear. Unlike human masks, it can be worn 24/7 without any discomfort. It never tears, leaks, or absorbs unwanted particles. It doesn’t hide a smiling face, obstruct breathing, or smear makeup. And it never allows harmful substances inside—if the wearer keeps it consistently in place.

So how do you obtain these angel’s wings? The answer is found in Psalm 91:9-13.

Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
No evil shall befall you,
Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
For He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you in all your ways.
In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,
The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

God cares enough about us to provide protection beyond human masking. But we have the responsibility of making that protection ours. First, we must make God our refuge and dwelling place before angels can be assigned to us. Our faith and loyalty must be first in Him, not in human strength. When we are faithful to stay on God’s turf, we not only have His protection but also authority to fight and defeat our enemies—all while wearing our angel-mask!

Notice that verse 11, it says “in all your ways.” While man-made masks may not keep out every speck of contamination, the angel-mask is guaranteed to hold at bay every intrusion. Their safety is perfect if we maintain our loyalty and put our trust in our unfailing Source. Considering its strength and consistent availability, we don’t want to leave home without it!
