10 Benefits of Praise and Worship

worship2

Praise and worship is a powerful part of our walk with God, and is appropriate for every day and every hour (I Chronicles 23:30; Psalm 92:2; Psalm 59:16).  It’s commanded by God, but just like all the other things He tells us to do, it is followed by blessings.  When we choose to worship in faith, despite our feelings, God sets in motions things only seen in the spiritual realm.  What goes on in the spiritual realm will eventually show up for our eyes to see in the natural.  All it takes is a believing heart that will glorify God in the best and the worst of times!

Here are ten benefits that follow true praise and worship.  Put praise into practice and watch God’s power work for you!

INVITES THE PRESENCE OF GOD

 2 Chronicles 5:11-14

And it came to pass when the priests came out of the Most Holy Place (for all the priests who were present had sanctified themselves, without keeping to their divisions), and the Levites who were the singers, all those of Asaph and Heman and Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, stood at the east end of the altar, clothed in white linen, having cymbals, stringed instruments and harps, and with them one hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets—indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the Lord, saying:

“For He is good,
For His mercy endures forever,”

that the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.

BRINGS VICTORY

 2 Chronicles 20:15-20

And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow go down against them. They will surely come up by the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the brook before the Wilderness of Jeruel. You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.”

And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem bowed before the Lord, worshiping the Lord. Then the Levites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with voices loud and high.

So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.” And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying:

“Praise the Lord,
For His mercy endures forever.”

Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. For the people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another. So when Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked toward the multitude; and there were their dead bodies, fallen on the earth. No one had escaped.

BRINGS DELIVERANCE FROM ENEMIES

 Psalm 18:3

I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised;
So shall I be saved from my enemies.

SATISFIES THE SOUL

 Psalm 63:1-5

 O God, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.  So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.  My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips.

REPELS DEPRESSION

 Isaiah 61:3

To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.

BRINGS LIBERTY

 Acts 16:25-26

But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.  Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.

BRINGS JOY

 Psalm 100:4

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.

Psalm 16:11

You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

DRAWS MEN TO GOD

 John 12:32

And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.

STRENGTHENS OUR FAITH

 Romans 4:20

He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God …

BRINGS US CLOSER TO GOD

James 4:8

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you . . .

  1. Thank you so much for bringing this all together and putting it into a single article so that I could be reminded that worship brings joy and liberty. I haven’t really been to a Christian church for a while and I’ve been wanting to get started back into the church. With joy and liberty I’ll be able to return, hopefully, I will one day be able to write a book or something about my time away, I would need a publisher for something like that though. https://store.csspub.com/

  4. thank you for a well organised and succinctly written piece. The modern trend to call all singing ‘worship’ has been difficult to navigate, over recent years. Your article has affirmed the approach I’ve also used without the dogmatic push that some approach this subject with.
