If you have ever seen the movie, The End of the Spear, you will recognize the name Elisabeth Elliot. She was the wife of Jim Elliot, missionary to Ecuador in the 1950s. Her husband was speared by the Auca Indians, yet Elisabeth stayed behind with her daughter until 1963. She later wrote several books, including Through Gates of Splendor, telling the story of her husband’s martyrdom.
Yesterday Elisabeth Elliot passed away at the age of 88. She is one of my faith heroines. Instead of becoming bitter in trial, she pressed on to do the work of God in a rugged place. Her life was a sincere commitment to her Lord, and she left behind a great legacy example for us all. May we not brush it away as insignificant, but rejoice in a life so dedicated to the Kingdom of God!
