A Diet of Love

love diet

I am part of a daily prayer network that prays specific prayers with prayer evangelist Dale Gentry.  The topic of his prayer today has always been dear to my heart.  Our culture today is the worst at making us feel like we don’t measure up – in actions, in talents, in looks, in physical ability, in size – you name it.  It’s a lie from the devil that says we don’t hold value as we are – that we must strive to be better.  It’s a lie that says we will never be good enough to be loved.  God, however, has a different opinion:

The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you . . .”

Romans 8:39 says that nothing can separate us from the love of God, not even an extra pound, gray hair, or acne!

When the lies come saying how inferior we are to the idols of society that surround us, our first weapon of defense is not to try the latest diet, apply more makeup, or go shopping for the newest outfit.  The only fool-proof plan is to meditate on the unending and unfailing love of God.  With a constant diet of God’s greatest attribute of love, the feelings of insecurity will slowly slip away.  No opinion or lie can stand against the power of God’s opinion over us!  The key is to believe it, and make it the foundation of our lives.  If we can depend on that love to provide us a home in heaven, then certainly we can depend on it to determine our worth!

This is what I prayed this morning with Dale Gentry and his prayer team.  You can join me – for your sake, and for the sake of people you may know.

Dear Father God……………we pray this morning for those who are struggling with their weight……………even though they have tried many new diets, exercises and slenderizing plans…………they supposedly fall back into the same old pattern again…………apparently never able to quite accomplish their goal of losing weight and staying there………..haunted by others around them who have a wonderful figure or great physique…………….we pray for this people group today………..that they will not focus their self worth or all of their energies on being slim and trim………….but will put it all in the proper perspective……………knowing that we live in a very outward appearance society………….with people running around in circles…………..moaning and groaning as they go………..trying to lose a few pounds while starving themselves silly to drop a size or two……………knowing that it’s easy to get out of balance in a culture that is focused on the outward appearance while giving little attention to the inward…………..understanding that according to Your word Lord………..these things we should have done but not have left the other undone…………..knowing that taking care of our health is very important………….but also knowing that we can go to the extreme………….many times resulting in anorexia and other eating disorders……………..so help us this morning to love ourselves as You love us…………….finding that balance in life by being happy regardless of what the scales may say…………not allowing the mirror to determine our value…………..but giving ourselves permission to enjoy a meal without feeling guilty or criticizing ourselves before we even leave the dinner table……………….give us a peace about it all and help us to remember that most of the world will go to bed hungry tonight………….thank You Lord for who we are and how we look………..You love us all just the same…………and we close today by praying for revival in America, another spiritual awakening…………….in Jesus name………..amen.”
